Our history

Edoardo Grassi, founder of Gaspardatable, was born in Florence into a family of interior designers. His world has been influenced by the Italian art of living: large summer tables laid under olive trees in the garden, bouquets of wild narcissus, peonies and roses scattered around the house, meals served on English plates his grandmother found in flea markets during a trip abroad.

«In our house, the garden and the house live in unison all year round. Ever since I was a child, we've always decorated our tables and living room with flowers from the garden, sometimes even with fruit. Whatever the season, we always managed to bring a bit of the garden indoors, and we've always decorated the garden with terracotta pots from Impruneta, zinc basins and other objects from yesteryear that today represent beautiful memories and constitute Gaspardatable's unique taste and style».

There are also many memories of his grandmother's English garden high up in the hills of Florence, where Edoardo would spend his time planting roses and irises in the stony soil of the region, always in the company of his dogs. The art of gardening has always been part of his daily life, to the point of becoming his profession. After years of experience in his family garden, observations and trials, Edoardo has prepared a selection of plants that are rare and often unique on the French market.

“I wasn't used to growing dahlias because the soil in this region of Tuscany isn't very conducive to the plant's development. During my stays in Great Britain, I was fascinated by the gardens of the British and their way of sublimating the dahlia. It's only in the last few years that I've taken up growing this multi-faceted plant. Appreciating beautiful flower gardens as much as charming interiors, the dahlia seemed to me the ideal plant for extending the pleasure of the senses from one space to another.”

I use it to decorate my home and share it with my guests and family. I play with the hues and shapes of the flowers to match my mood, with this or that vase, as well as the atmosphere of the room. It's very rewarding, which is why I started growing them in my garden.

«Very few other plants give me so much satisfaction. What fascinates me most about the dahlia is the multitude of flower shapes, sizes and colors, as well as the diversity of foliage. A tuber planted after the last frosts in May produces an avalanche of flowers within 2 to 3 months, right up to the first frosts in autumn. There's no need to wait several years: a simple cultivation is enough to produce a profusion of flowers.»

We can't end this story without introducing our faithful assistants Gaspard and Sharlotte. Edoardo owes them a debt of gratitude. They support him and follow him in the garden work with remarkable patience, prompting him to stand up to them when the going gets tough, especially in winter. Gaspard and Sharlotte are his dogs...
